What is SSR?
Solid State Relays (SSRs) efficiently manage the power supply to other devices, akin to a mechanical switch. However, unlike traditional mechanical switches that require physical interaction, SSRs function electronically, enabling the control of high-current devices like lights or appliances with low-current signals. This makes SSRs ideal for use with Phidget Interface Kits or any device equipped with a digital output, thanks to their ability to switch on with a voltage as low as 3V.
SSRs perform the same job as Mechanical Relays, but have the following advantages:

SSRs generate less electromagnetic interference compared to mechanical relays due to the elimination of contact arcing, which is prevalent in mechanical systems. Additionally, the absence of electromagnets further minimizes interference.
Mechanical relay contacts wear down over time due to arcing, whereas SSRs boast a prolonged lifespan thanks to their purely digital operation, ensuring millions of cycles when used correctly.
SSRs offer rapid on/off switching capabilities, executing tasks in 1ms as opposed to the 10ms typically required by mechanical relays.
SSRs are more resilient to physical vibrations compared to their mechanical counterparts, ensuring stable performance in dynamic environments.
The non-mechanical nature of SSR switches eliminates contact bounce, ensuring silent and smooth operations.

How does it work?
The SSR's control inputs connect to an internal LED, which emits light across an air gap to sensors. These sensors link to transistors that either open or close, regulating the flow of power. When closed, current flows freely, connecting the load to the power supply. When open, the power is disconnected. This system, known as an optocoupler, effectively links circuit parts without direct electrical connections.
