What is an SSR - Solid State Relay?
Solid State Relays (SSRs) are sophisticated devices that electronically turn the power on or off, similar to a traditional mechanical switch. The key difference lies in their electronic operation, which allows high-current devices like lights or appliances to be controlled with low-current signals such as a standard DC signal from a Digital Output. With an activation voltage as low as 3V, these relays seamlessly integrate with Phidget Interface Kits or any digital output device.
Advantages of SSRs over Mechanical Relays:

SSRs minimize electromagnetic interference, a common issue with mechanical relays, thanks to the absence of contact arcing. Furthermore, SSRs eschew electromagnets, further reducing interference.
Mechanical relay contacts degrade over time due to arcing. In contrast, SSRs boast a longer lifespan due to their purely digital internals, ensuring durability over millions of cycles.
